Moving NFT sale proceeds from your wallet back to an exchange without mistakes
After selling an NFT, the proceeds land in your wallet, often on a network or in a wrapped token the exchange does not accept. Here is how to check token, network and address before depositing proceeds to an exchange account.
Multiple exchanges | the reader's region | the reader's funding currency | fees, access and account safety
Selling an NFT on a marketplace usually leaves the proceeds in your own wallet, and many sellers then want to move them to an exchange to convert, trade or withdraw to a bank. That step looks simple, but it trips people up more often than the sale itself. Proceeds may arrive as a wrapped version of a token, on a layer-two network or sidechain, or mixed with unsolicited tokens airdropped to wallets known to be active in NFT markets. Exchanges such as Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget accept deposits only for specific tokens on specific networks. This guide walks through identifying exactly what you received, matching it to a supported deposit option, verifying the address and handling the transfer with a test first.
Identify exactly what you received
Open your wallet and look at the sale transaction in a block explorer. Note the token you received, including whether it is a wrapped version, and the network it sits on. Marketplaces on different chains pay out in different assets, and some pay in a wrapped token rather than the native coin. If your wallet shows several networks, make sure you are viewing the one where the proceeds landed. Ignore unknown tokens that appeared around the same time; they are often spam and interacting with them can lead to malicious sites.
Match the token and network to a deposit option
In the exchange app, open the deposit screen for the token you received and look at the list of supported networks. The network your proceeds sit on must appear in that list. If it does not, sending directly could leave the funds stuck and difficult to recover. In that case you may first need to unwrap the token or move it to a supported network using your wallet's own tools, checking the official documentation of the network involved. Do this step slowly, because bridging and unwrapping add their own transaction steps and fees.
Verify the deposit address and any memo
Copy the deposit address from the exchange only after selecting the correct network. Paste it into your wallet and compare the first and last several characters with the address in the app; clipboard malware that swaps addresses is a known threat to active wallets. If the exchange shows a memo or tag for that network, include it. Avoid copying the address from previous transactions in your wallet history, because address poisoning attacks place lookalike addresses there.
Send a test and record the transfer
Send a small amount first and wait until it is credited in the exchange's deposit history before sending the rest. Deposits are credited after a number of confirmations that varies by network. Once complete, record the date, token, network, amount, transaction ID and the NFT sale it came from. Those notes help you calculate gains later and let support trace the transfer if anything goes wrong. If a deposit does not appear, check the transaction ID in a block explorer and then contact the exchange's official support through the app.

Scenario checkpoint
- Check the sale transaction in a block explorer to confirm the token, wrapped status and network.
- Confirm the network appears in the exchange's deposit list before sending any NFT proceeds there.
- Copy the deposit address fresh from the app and never from previous transactions in your history.
- Include any memo or tag shown and send a small test before transferring the remaining proceeds.
- Record the transaction ID and link it to the NFT sale so later gain calculations stay simple.
